Spurs fans slam Tanguy Ndombele after Watford display

It’s fair to say Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele hasn’t enjoyed the greatest of starts to life in English football.

The France international joined the north London side from Lyon last summer in a big-money deal, but after scoring a peach of a goal against Aston Villa, things took a nosedive.

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

The 23-year-old suffered from numerous niggling injuries, whilst when he did make it on to the pitch, his performances left a lot to be desired – Ndombele himself probably won’t forget Spurs boss Jose Mourinho calling him out after a particularly woeful display at Turf Moor against Burnley.

Reports in recent weeks have even linked him with a move to the likes of Barcelona and Inter, although it has also been suggested that Spurs are keen to give him another chance to impress in the upcoming campaign.

But after seeing him produce another disappointing display in pre-season against Watford on Saturday afternoon, Spurs fans took to Twitter to slam the midfielder.

A couple of Spurs supporters said that Ndombele’s lack of work ethic and laziness should be reason why the Frenchman gets sold.

Unsurprisingly, there are a few Spurs fans who appear to have seen enough with the much-maligned midfielder, and are keen to see the back of him this summer.

But having spent a large sum of money on him only last summer, and with him still being just 23, perhaps fans should be a little more patient with him and not give up completely on him becoming a success.

Plenty of players who make their first big move abroad need time to adjust, and Ndombele is no different, whatever the cost it took for Spurs to sign him in the first place.

West Brom can soften Grady Diangana with Adem Ljajic swoop

West Brom are back in the big time despite a less than impressive title run-in and they may well have to compete without one of last season’s popular stars, but Luke Dowling can soften that blow with one new addition…

What’s the word?

According to Aksam (via Sport Witness), the Baggies continue to be linked with a move for Besiktas attacker Adem Ljajic this summer.

It’s claimed that the Serbian international could leave the Super Lig outfit as they want him off the wage bill – Andreas Iniesta’s Vissel Kobe are also interested.

Albion boss Slaven Bilic has previously managed in the Turkish league with the Black Eagles and has been linked to both Domagoj Vida and Vedat Muriqi too.

Soften the blow

The Hawthorns faithful may have seen the last of loan star Grady Diangana after he delivered eight goals and six assists on their way to the runner-up spot.

It is thought that David Moyes wants the 22-year-old to play a key part in east London next season, which would seemingly close the door on a fairytale return to the west Midlands.

But in Ljajic, Dowling and Bilic can soften that blow.

The 28-year-old is capable of playing anywhere behind the striker, so that’s one tick in the Croatian’s one-up-top system and despite Besiktas struggling for third place, Ljajic was more than impressive.

Per WhoScored, the playmaker provided seven goals and six assists, averaging 2 shots, 2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game whilst a passing accuracy rate of nearly 90% for his position is pretty outstanding.

It’s no wonder Serie A powerhouse and ex-Rome teammate Radja Nainggolan described Ljajic as “different class” back in 2014.

As per Fanatik, he could cost the Baggies just £6m, which is quite the bargain considering he’s valued above that by Transfermarkt and has racked up 45 caps on the international stage.

Wolves fans drool over Daniel Podence

Wolves got their quest for a top-six finish back on track on Sunday, beating Everton 3-0 at Molineux in what was a very impressive performance.

The Midlands club got a lot right against the Toffees, keeping a clean sheet and carving out a lot of chances, but despite a number of good showings throughout the team, there was one man who stood out above the rest.

Six months after signing for the club, Daniel Podence finally got his chance to start his first Premier League game, and he definitely made the most of it.

The Portuguese winger ran the show, winning Nuno’s side the penalty that put them 1-0 up and proving a nuisance for the opposition defence all afternoon, completing four dribbles and having two shots on target before being subbed in the 70th minute.

The 24-year-old’s dribbling ability created a plethora of chances for the home team, and fans loved what they were seeing from their January signing, who seems to finally be emerging after failing to start a league game for his new club until this point.

The former Olympiakos man’s dribbling skills led to a number of fans comparing him to one of world football’s biggest names.

Indeed, plenty of Wolves fans noted the similarities between their man and Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard, and if the 24-year-old goes on to have a career half as good as the two-time Premier League winner, he will go down as a Molineux legend.

It remains to be seen if Podence can build on this performance, but to make this sort of impression on your first Premier League start can only be a good thing, and if he keeps it up, Nuno may soon have a selection headache on the wings.

Glasgow Rangers: Thomas Robert’s agent discusses future

Glasgow Rangers target Thomas Robert’s agent has said that the 19-year-old is weighing up offers from France, Germany and the UK.

Robert, the son of former Newcastle United star Laurent, currently plays for Montpellier, but he has reportedly turned down a contract from the Ligue 1 club as he wants to play regular football, something which his representative Mark Mackay has now confirmed.

Speaking to Football Insider, he discussed his client’s future, saying:

“We have several offers from clubs in France, Germany and the UK, but Thomas wants to be playing regular first-team football wherever he ends up going.

“He refused Montpellier’s offer of a new deal as he wants to be playing first-team football and he sees that as key to his long-term development at this stage of his career”.

So far, Robert’s experience in top-level football is non-existent – he is yet to make his professional bow, instead appearing in five UEFA Youth League games during the 2018/19 campaign. However, although his father may be biased, he believes his son has the potential to be even better than he was.

Any deal for Robert would be a free transfer, which makes this a no-risk situation for Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson. They now face a nervous wait to see whether he will choose to make the switch to Ibrox.

Tottenham fans slam Daniel Levy for Mauricio Pochettino exit

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to social media to fume at chairman Daniel Levy for the decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino as head coach.

Spurs revealed that Pochettino had been relieved of his duties on Tuesday night, and Levy said in a statement that the club were “extremely reluctant” to make the change but this season’s results forced their hand.

He wasted little time in bringing in the Argentine’s successor either, with Jose Mourinho appointed early on Wednesday morning.

The capital giants have only won three of their 12 Premier League matches this season to sit down in 14th position in the table.

However, not too many of the supporters are blaming Pochettino.

Indeed, many took to social media on Tuesday evening to slam Levy for the decision to sack the Argentine, who led the club to a Champions League final last season.

A selection of the Twitter reaction, showing the anger felt towards the club’s chairman, is available to view below:

Sunderland fans slam Phil Parkinson for atrocious start as manager

Sunderland boss Phil Parkinson has now overseen nine matches in charge and it is fair to say that things haven’t worked out in the way he would have wished so far.

With just 11 goals scored and two wins to his name, Sunderland have exited all three cup competitions and have dropped in the League One table.

Mathematically there is still a very good likelihood of making the play-offs or possibly even the automatic promotion places, but the team seems to be on a steady decline, and fans blame Parkinson for that.

Some think he should never have been given the job while one even believes that keeping Jack Ross would have been a better option, which shows how unimpressive Parkinson has been so far.

It is worth considering that the new boss has had to make do with the players who were already at the club, and he will have to wait until January to bring in any of his own, and therefore it may be a little harsh to judge him so early on.

Regardless, several supporters have made their feelings known, and Parkinson has a lot to do if he is to sway their opinion, as the following reactions show.

West Brom fans offer their views on Grady Diangana speculation

According to Claret & Hugh, West Ham United are considering the possibility of recalling Grady Diangana from his loan spell at West Bromwich Albion.

The 21-year-old was allowed to leave West Ham to join the Baggies over the summer.

And the attacker has been in impressive form for Slaven Bilic’s side this season – scoring four times and contributing three assists in 12 Championship outings.

We mastered the trick in the video below in 8 attempts… could you do better?

According to Claret & Hugh, Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini will be left to decide whether he wants to recall Diangana between January 1 and January 14.

WBA are flying at the moment – collecting 27 points from their 14 matches to sit top of the Championship table, two points clear of second-placed Preston North End.

But it would be a blow if they were to lose Diangana at the start of 2020.

As expected, a number of the West Brom fans have been on social media discussing the developments.

Many are doubtful that the attacker will return to the London Stadium, whilst others are simply hoping that he will remain at their club.

Wolves boss Nuno Santo praises Patrick Cuntrone’s unique characteristics

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Wolves manager Nuno Santo has heaped glowing praise onto summer signing Patrick Cutrone for the impact he’s had amongst the team so far this season.

What’s he said?

The Italian striker joined the club for £16m from AC Milan at the end of July but has been restricted to minimal game time, starting only two Premier League matches.

Across all competitions, the 21-year-old is averaging just under 38 minutes per game and has scored just the one goal.

However, this hasn’t stopped his manager from talking him up despite his lack of involvement.

In a recent interview with the Express & Star, Nuno answered “yes” to whether he thought Cutrone offered the team something different, before saying:

“His characteristics, he’s a fighter, and we appreciate it.

“He’s been working very well for the team.

“He’s a player that brings a lot of energy when he goes on the pitch.

“You have to take advantage of it while expecting him to improve – keep growing as a player.”

An essential member of the squad, nonetheless

Even though the goals haven’t been flying in for Cutrone over at Molineux, he’s still winning his plaudits from the old gold faithful and, more importantly, where it matters most with the manager.

Wolves are having to endure a strenuous campaign after qualifying for the Europa League group stages with an impressive six straight wins – most of the games coming before a ball had even been kicked in the Premier League.

They’ve also got the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup to compete in on top of that.

Are Gareth Southgate’s Aston Villa roots the reason behind the Wolves player in the video below being overlooked?…

Therefore, two games per week is going to become the norm for the west Midlands club over the next few months, at least.

This bodes well for the Italy U21 striker as he should get plenty of opportunities as the season goes on as some players will need to be rested – for instance, Raul Jimenez has now played well over 40 games for club and country in 2019 alone.

That’s one reason why he was signed in the summer so that he can add vital depth to Nuno’s squad.

These latest comments from the Portuguese chief should serve as further encouragement because if he offers the team something that nobody else can, then he is even more likely to be called upon.
