Aston Villa fans react to Ezri Konsa display at Old Trafford

Ezri Konsa played the full 90 minutes as Aston Villa picked up a 2-2 draw away to Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

According to WhoScored, the 22-year-old boasted a pass success rate of 80% from central defence, completing 24 of his 27 passes, while registering one interception, one successful aerial duel and two clearances.

It was not really a match for the defences with both teams looking shaky in that area of the field.

That said, a selection of Villa fans were keen to pay tribute to Konsa for his display against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Others, meanwhile, were keen to hail the 22-year-old’s form in general having now started and finished Villa’s last three Premier League matches.

The summer arrival from Brentford had only actually played 15 minutes of Premier League football before the clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on November 10.

Bjorn Engels’ recent absence opened the door for Konsa, though, and the Villa fans believe that the 6 ft ace is starting to show his worth in England’s top flight.

And fan even tipped him to force his way into England reckoning for the World Cup next summer…

It is clear to see that Konsa has made a strong impression on the fans, and it will be fascinating to see whether he is included in the XI for Wednesday’s trip to Chelsea in the Premier League.

Villa, meanwhile, are reportedly open to selling one member of their first-team squad during the January transfer window.

Everton: Fans agree with influencer that the club ‘has gone soft’

Everton fans have found themselves agreeing with an influencer about the club’s stance dealing with Andre Gomes’ injury during the 1-1 draw against Tottenham on Sunday.

Peter McPartland, host of Toffee TV, said that Son Heung-min “knew exactly what he was doing” and “saw the red mist” after the Portuguese midfielder sustained a fractured dislocation of his right ankle.

Gomes was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery on Monday and the club released an official statement saying that it “went extremely well”, with manager Marco Silva in close communications with the medical staff about his trauma.

The South Korea international apologised and illustrated his sorrow in his celebration during Spurs’ Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade on Wednesday.

However, McPartland was not buying the “narrative” and told Radio City Talk that the club has a weak spine running through it.

“I have no idea how he’s got away with it,” said McPartland.

“Let’s get it right, Son chased him with no intention of winning the ball, now some people say that those fouls happen all over the pitch. Maybe they do, but if they don’t lead to an injury as severe as that then you’ll only be punished for what happens.

“He [Son] knew exactly what he was doing and the consequences that Gomes’ ankle gets broken and dislocated, he will be out for a very very long time. This whole narrative that has been created that Son is somehow is a second victim in this shows you the power of PR.”

He continued and added that he was furious with his football club for the way that they have dealt with it.

“I am absolutely disgusted with Everton. They’ve fallen for it, hook, line and sinker. This whole thing about Seamus Coleman going after him and putting his arm around him, why is he doing that?”

McPartland used the example of Blues’ legend Peter Reid’s reaction to Bryan Marwood injuring Adrian Heath during a league match against Sheffield Wednesday in 1984 to illustrate how football has gone the other way.

He added, “this club has just become soft.”

Supporters agreed with the YouTuber and made their feelings clear on social media.

Leeds fans react to Pablo Hernandez’s comments on Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United fans on Twitter have been reacting to Pablo Hernandez’s recent comments on Marcelo Bielsa.

The Spaniard has stated that he’s still learning from the Argentine despite thinking he knew everything there is to know about football when he arrived at Elland Road.

This is high praise from a player who has worked with some of the world’s top managers such as Vicente Del Bosque and Unai Emery.

Of course, these comments had United fans once again waxing lyrical about their manager.

You can’t blame them either, it’s impossible to underestimate the impact Bielsa has had at the Yorkshire club since taking the job in 2018, lifting them from midtable to the top of the division.

Despite falling short of promotion last season he’s already cemented himself as a bit of a legend at the club.

Here’s what Leeds fans on Twitter have been saying about the Argentine after Hernandez’s comments…

Liverpool: Ki-Jana Hoever selected for Netherlands’ Under-17 World Cup squad

Liverpool will be without teenage defender Ki-Jana Hoever for their next few fixtures after he was called up by his country.

[ad_pod ]

The 17-year-old right-back has been named in the Netherlands squad for the upcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Brazil, as per onsoranje.nl, the official website of the Dutch national team.

The tournament begins on October 26th, with the final on November 17th, and if the Dutch were to add the world title to the European crown they won earlier this year, it would mean that Hoever will be unavailable for Liverpool’s next seven matches.

On the face of it, Hoever’s absence from club action owing to the Under-17 World Cup should not affect Jurgen Klopp’s side unduly, with the teenager playing just once for the first team this season and being an unused substitute in one other game for the senior side. [via TransferMarkt]

If anything, it is the Reds’ youth and reserve teams who will feel the force of his national team participation, with the defender playing in five Premier League 2 games and both UEFA Youth League matches so far in 2019/20. [via TransferMarkt]

However, if Trent Alexander-Arnold was to become unavailable through injury or suspension over the next month, it would leave Klopp with no natural right-back replacement.

Nathaniel Clyne, the only other senior right-back at the club, remains out of action due to the anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered in pre-season, with the ex-Southampton man not expected back until January at the earliest, according to The Telegraph.

If Alexander-Arnold is ruled out for any reason, the only other conceivable right-back options are Joe Gomez and Fabinho.

The ex-Charlton man has made 52 appearances in the position in his club career, but Klopp has preferred to deploy him at centre-back in recent games.

Fabinho has plenty of experience at right-back, having played there 98 times in his career, but all except one of those came before summer 2016, while his last game at right-back was two and a half years ago. [via TransferMarkt]

If Alexander-Arnold comes through the next month without any injuries or suspensions, Hoever’s absence due to the Under-17 World Cup should not make any real dent in Klopp’s plans.

However, between now and mid-November, every time the England right-back hits the deck clutching at a body part or is approached by a referee after flying into a challenge, the Liverpool manager could be sweating profusely and contemplating the possible need for someone in the squad to plug a major gap in the team.

Liverpool fans, are you worried that Hoever’s national team selection could leave a dearth of right-back cover if anything happens to Alexander-Arnold? Comment below with your views!

Liverpool star Mo Salah’s latest Instagram post shows just how fast he is

The Egyptian posted a multitude of photos from Sunday’s game against Chelsea, but it’s the first image in the album that catches the eye.

The snap shows Salah receiving the ball and running so fast that the camera couldn’t capture a clear image of the winger.

Man City fans slam Gabriel Jesus after comments on lack of playing time

[ad_pod ]

When you have a club’s record goal-scorer for competition, you should probably know you’re not going to be playing 90 minutes every single week.

For Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero’s presence at Manchester City has meant he has been playing as second-fiddle to the Argentina international, and understandably so. After all, the 31-year-old has struck 239 goals in 344 appearances for the club across all competitions.

However, Jesus has now come out and revealed his frustrations over his lack of game-time – this season alone, the forward has started just one Premier League game. Speaking to Brazilian TV station Esporte Interativo, the 22-year-old admitted he is “over” the phase of simply having to wait for opportunities.

After hearing the former Palmeiras striker’s comments, City fans flooded to Twitter to voice their concerns about the young star.

Many supporters of the Manchester side slammed him for speaking out, and insisted he would have the right to voice his frustrations if he was consistently out-scoring Aguero.

Some fans suggested he should simply leave if he is fed up of being second-choice, with one supporter in particular calling him a “fraud” while others slammed him for living offside.

Tottenham fans fume at Mauricio Pochettino’s bizarre post-Colchester comment

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter are fuming with one Mauricio Pochettino comment in particular in the aftermath of his side’s Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Colchester United on Tuesday night.

Spurs should have had enough to see off their lower league opposition given they had a nice blend of youth and experience in the starting XI, but instead they were taken to penalties by the U’s, before Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura failed to convert their spot-kicks.

Speaking post-match, as reported by Football London’s Alasdair Gold on Twitter, the Argentine manager provided a bizarre view on his squad and transfers:

Given the summer transfer window only recently ended, it seems mad that the former Southampton boss is already looking ahead to January and suggesting that the problems they are currently encountering might not be sorted until then.

Presumably he is alluding to the futures of players like Christian Eriksen, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, whose contracts are due to expire next summer with no sign of any of them extending their stays with the north London outfit as things stand.

Tottenham supporters certainly weren’t impressed with their manager’s remark – understandable given their current form – with one saying “he’s lost the plot”, and another individual saying “never thought I’d hear Poch say this”.

Liverpool: £10m Bobby Duncan sale being negotiated by Michael Edwards

Liverpool striker Bobby Duncan could be heading to Serie A in Italy as the club’s director of football Michael Edwards is negotiating a potential transfer.

[ad_pod ]

Football Insider reported that Edwards is in talks with Fiorentina about a move for the player, who is the subject of a buy-to-loan offer worth more than £10m.

According to Football Insider, the Italian club will take the 18-year-old on loan for the 2019/20 campaign, with a £10m-plus obligation to purchase at the end of the season.

Football Insider added that Fiorentina are keen to finalise the deal before the end of the Serie A transfer window next Monday.

Duncan was one of the stars of Liverpool’s FA Youth Cup-winning side last season, scoring in the final as the Reds defeated Manchester City on penalties and netting 25 times all competitions for the under-18 side.

That impressive scoring return prompted Jurgen Klopp to include him among the first team squad for pre-season and he played four times with them over the summer, scoring in a 6-0 win over Tranmere.

However, he has since returned to the Reds’ under-23 side, for whom he has made three appearances without scoring in the early weeks of the season.

Football Insider reported that he was left out of their squad for last night’s 4-2 win over Southampton amid interest from Fiorentina, a first victory of the season for Neil Critchley’s team.

According to the Daily Mail, Duncan had been concerned about his prospects of making it at Liverpool under Klopp, and with the Reds allowing fellow attacker Harry Wilson to leave on loan despite scoring 18 goals for Derby last season, the teenager’s chances of first team action at Anfield this term appear extremely slim.

If he goes to Fiorentina, Duncan will not be the first ex-Liverpool forward to try his luck in Italy after failing to establish himself at Anfield. Suso scored just once in 21 first team appearances for the Reds before joining AC Milan in 2015, for whom he has since netted 23 times in 137 games (0.17 goals per game).

Since beginning his current role in November 2016, Edwards has a track record of attracting generous fees for fringe players at Liverpool.

Danny Ings was sold for £20m having scored just four times in 25 appearances, Dominic Solanke went for £19m after only one goal in 27 games and the Reds got £12.5m for goalkeeper Danny Ward, who played only three times for the first team and conceded six goals.

Liverpool should try to include a buyback clause in any possible deal with Fiorentina in case Duncan repeats his youth scoring record at senior level, but at this moment, £10m for someone who has never played a competitive first team game seems like great business for the Anfield club.

Liverpool fans, do you think the club should accept Fiorentina’s reported buy-to-loan offer for Duncan? Give us your views in the comments section below!

Championship Transfer Roundup: Leeds eye Vukovic, West Brom want Pereira, Lowe update

[ad_pod ]

Yesterday’s Championship transfer roundup featured Aston Villa’s interested in Championship pair Kalvin and Matt Phillips as well as Rafa Mir’s loan move to Nottingham Forest from Wolves. Today’s edition brings you Leeds’ pursuit of Josip Vukovic, West Brom’s chase of Matheus Pereira and Jamal Lowe’s potential transfer to Wigan Athletic.

Leeds after Vukovic

Report: Leeds United are reportedly still in the chase for Josip Vukovic according to talkSPORT. The Whites are joined by both Aston Villa and Southampton, who are also interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Verdict: It has not been the busiest transfer window for Leeds so far this summer, although they did well to bring in Helder Costa. However, considering that two Premier League sides are also linked to Vukovic, it would be a victory if Marcelo Bielsa and co could convince him to move to Elland Road. The midfielder spent most of his career in Croatia before moving to Portuguese side Maritimo last summer. He made 28 appearances for his new team last term, with the majority of them coming in defensive midfield. With Kalvin Phillips potentially on the way out of the club this summer, a replacement may be needed.

How likely is the deal? 7/10

West Brom optimistic on Pereira

Report: West Brom are still optimistic that a deal for Matheus Pereira can be completed this summer according to Birmingham Live. As it stands, negotiations are still ongoing between the Baggies and the winger’s current club Sporting Lisbon.

Verdict: Matheus Pereira spent last season on loan at Nuremberg in the Bundesliga and, although they finished bottom of the table, the 23-year-old was one of his team’s better players. Only Hanno Behrens and Mikael Ishak scored more than his three goals for the club, whilst he also managed to clock two assists in his 21 appearances. It is always hard to make a real impact in a struggling side, so if he completes a move to West Brom, who should be challenging for promotion to the Premier League next term, he is likely to have more chance to impress. The Baggies could also do with his dribbling qualities – no-one from the Hawthorns outfit could match Pereira’s 2.1 dribbles per game last season. With him already having spent the past campaign out on loan, it seems likely that the Portuguese team will be willing to let him go again.

How likely is the deal? 7.5/10

Lowe close to Wigan switch

Report: According to The Portsmouth News, Jamal Lowe is close to completing his transfer from Pompey to Wigan Athletic. The winger has traveled to Lancashire to seal a deal worth in excess of £2.5m.

Verdict: Lowe had a fantastic season for Portsmouth last year as he scored 17 goals and provided nine assists from the wing to help the South-Coast team win the EFL Trophy. Promotion to the Championship may have kept him at the club beyond the summer but in the end, Pompey were knocked out in the play-off semi-finals. As such, Lowe told his employers that he wanted to leave the club this summer, and he appears to have got his wish. Should he complete the move, the 25-year-old will be the Latics’ fourth signing of the summer. His goals and creativity will be welcome boosts to a side that scored just 51 goals in 46 league games last time out.

How likely is the deal? 9/10

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford shares hilarious Instagram snap with the team

[ad_pod ]

The Red Devils are very much enjoying their stay in Singapore.

After finishing their two pre-season friendlies in Australia, Manchester United have landed in Singapore where they faced Inter Milan and also snatched another victory in the process.

A 1-0 game that looked close on paper was very much the opposite on the pitch, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s troops dominated the Italian side from start to finish, impressing their boss and the fans along the way.

Would any current Man Utd players get into Fergie’s double-winning side of 2008, featuring the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez? One fan thinks so in the video below…

And the team seem to be in great spirits as well, if their latest social media activity is anything to go by.

Marcus Rashford shared a hilarious

/B0MCml6nH2n/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram snap with Joel Pereira, Martial and Marcos Rojo as the Red Devils seemed to be singing a cappella and having lots of fun.

The snap had his teammates and fans in tears as Pereira commented with a series of emojis.

As for Rashford, after penning a brand new contract with Manchester United not so long ago, the young forward will be looking to improve on last season’s numbers.

In 2018/19, he played a total of 47 games, scoring 13 and assisting nine goals in the process.
