'The fans are happy!' Senne Lammens reacts to Peter Schmeichel chants from Man Utd fans after impressive start to Old Trafford career

Senne Lammens admits he is flattered Manchester United fans are likening him to legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel. The 23-year-old joined from Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp and has made a good impression with Red Devils supporters over the past few months. And after these favourable chants from the home faithful, the keeper has sent a grateful message back to them.

  • Lammens makes bright start at Man Utd

The keeper position has proven to be a troublesome one for the past two seasons at United, with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir not showing the quality and consistency needed between the sticks for a club of this size. The former was shipped out on loan to Trabzonspor in September, while the latter has been usurped as the club's first choice by summer signing Lammens.

Incidentally, when he joined the Premier League giants, he said: "I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United; it is a real dream come true. The past few years have been an amazing journey; it’s now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special. You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created here, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years. I cannot wait to get to know my team-mates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff. This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives."

While he has let in 10 goals in eight appearances, he has also kept one clean sheet, which came in his first start in a 2-0 win over Sunderland. And despite being in the embryonic stages of his Old Trafford career, fans have serenaded him with a tongue-in-cheek chant at some games, asking if the Belgian is Schmeichel in disguise.

    Lammens touched by Schmeichel chant

While Lammens understood that it was not a completely serious song, he appreciated it all the same.

He told United's website: "It was really nice to hear it already in the first game [against Sunderland]. I think it is a sign that the fans are happy with me. It feels really good that I can give them that trust."

Lammens was seen talking to the Dane ahead of United's 2-1 win at rivals Liverpool in October, and now, he has revealed what was said between the two.

He revealed: "He just wished me luck and told me to be myself. He gave me good energy before the game against Liverpool, and obviously we won that, so I think that was very nice.

"It started [journaling] when I started playing at Antwerp. I like to write things down before and after the game just to get my head in the right mindset, and then get things off your chest after the game. I write down things about how the opponent plays and how they put pressure on me, and also individual things I need to know during the game, nothing too special – just something to get my head into the right mindset."

  • Amorim warns against Schmeichel comparisons

While United supporters are clearly fans of Lammens, head coach Ruben Amorim said it was too early to compare him to Schmeichel.

He said in October: "Nothing is impossible [regarding if Lammens is impossible to drop]. You have to prove during the week but, of course, he did a great job. It is possible that he is going to start the game. The first impression in this club is really important; to maintain the level is even more important and is really difficult.

"He’s not Schmeichel yet. He’s a young guy with talent. He showed a lot of composure, and the fans liked it. But again, that is in the past; we need to prove in the next game."

What comes next for Lammens and Man Utd?

The United keeper will hope to help his side to victory on Monday night when they travel to Premier League basement side Wolves. If they beat the relegation favourites, the Red Devils will rise from 12th to sixth in the table.

Jude Bellingham's newest fan! James Maddison dresses son up in close friend's Real Madrid kit with 'wise choice' message

James Maddison dressed his eldest son, Leo, up in a Jude Bellingham Real Madrid kit. In a pair of wholesome snapshots taken at home, Maddison's boy throws his arms wide in pure, unfiltered delight while wearing a blue Real Madrid third strip, complete with the midfielder’s name and the iconic No.5 plastered across the back.

A kit rooted in history

The shirt Maddison’s son proudly wears is Real Madrid’s 2025-26 third strip. It arrives in a luxurious shade of blue, decorated with clean white accents that mirror the freshly installed seating at the renovated Bernabeu. The fabric itself carries subtle contours that mimic the stadium’s interior, a quiet tribute woven directly into the garment. Inside the collar rests a sentence etched into Madrid folklore: "90 minuti en el Bernabeu son molto longo." Those words, spoken by club legend Juanito to an Inter defender during the 1984–85 UEFA Cup semi-final, serve as a warning to opponents: "90 minutes in the Bernabeu feels like a lifetime."

The colour calls back to the 2013–14 season, the year Real Madrid clinched La Decima, their historic 10th European crown. It is a kit steeped in heritage, and now, thanks to Maddison’s son Leo, it has already found one of its most enthusiastic ambassadors.

Maddison added a mischievous caption to the images: "Wise choice, son." While Bellingham reposted the story in his account and wrote: "Leooo😍💙".

AdvertisementBellingham’s England story takes another twist

While Maddison’s social-media moment was light-hearted, Bellingham’s recent weeks with the national team have felt more intense. The Madrid midfielder was left out of England’s October plans while recovering from shoulder surgery, a spell that allowed speculation around his temperament to bubble up again as Thomas Tuchel seeks to build a harmonious squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel eventually restored him to the team for November’s fixtures against Serbia and Albania. Bellingham started the second of those matches but left without the shirt he wore, having swapped it with Inter defender Kristjan Asllani as he walked off the pitch. The decision triggered debate as many questioned the need for a shirt swap mid-match rather than waiting for the final whistle.

Midfielder defended from recent criticism

Last month, England midfielder Danny Murphy was quick to dispel any notion that Bellingham’s character should be questioned.

Speaking to GOAL, Murphy said: "I find the narrative around his character and any problems a little bit strange because when I have watched England – I have watched them a lot at tournaments and watched him closely, he is, by far, the best character on the football pitch when England play, in terms of producing big moments, grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck, leaving everything out there.

"If you could have 11 Jude Bellinghams, you would win most tournaments. The element of not talking to the press or not doing interviews or the odd swear word or rant or a little bit of what some people would call arrogance, that is what creates the player on the pitch. They are just rumours because a lot of the feedback from the players – Jordan Henderson recently said how much he likes him and how great a character he is – I think some of it has been exaggerated.

"From a footballing perspective, we have a much better chance of winning the World Cup if he is in the team. I don’t mean just in the squad, I mean in the team. He is a phenomenal talent. We should be – as pundits, fans, press – building him up, applauding him and being thankful that we have got him, not trying to pull him down because he is the best one we have got. He is the game-changer in our side. He is the one that can make things happen. He’s just a phenomenal player."

GettyWhat comes next for Bellingham?

Bellingham has been a key figure for England for several years. He has become a talisman at Real Madrid. And now, even Premier League stars like Maddison find their children choosing his name on the back of their shirts. With the 2026 World Cup looming, Bellingham will be central to England’s ambitions. Shirt swaps, debates and social-media storms won’t change that.

Pep Guardiola gives positive injury updates on Erling Haaland and Rodri as Man City boss hails 'extraordinary' Antoine Semenyo before Bournemouth clash

Pep Guardiola has revealed that both Erling Haaland and Rodri have recovered from their respective injuries and will be fit for Manchester City's Premier League clash with Bournemouth on Sunday. Haaland had an injury scare during City's 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa last week but the Norwegian is ready to face Andoni Iraola's in-form side, who are second in the table.

Haaland 'ready' after colliding against post

Haaland appeared to hurt himself when he collided with the post in the last few minutes of City's defeat at Villa. He played no part at all in the 3-1 win at Swansea in the Carabao Cup. Guardiola set alarm bells ringing among City fans when he said after the Swansea game that he was not sure whether Haaland would be back to face Bournemouth.

However, he allayed fears about the Norwegian's fitness by declaring he was "ready" to play against the Cherries.

AdvertisementGetty Images SportRodri back to help City out

Rodri has not featured for City since injuring his hamstring in the first half of the 1-0 win at Brentford on October 5. The Spaniard has had a lot of misfortune with injuries since tearing his ACL in September 2024 and missing almost all of last season. He suffered a muscle injury against Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup, forcing him to miss the start of this season. He missed the game against Burnley after complaining of pain in his knee, a week before he hurt his hamstring while playing against Brentford.

Guardiola said Rodri would be back for Sunday's game at the Etihad Stadium although he stressed that he might not be available to start the game or complete 90 minutes. "I think he will be ready to help us. I don't know from the beginning but hopefully he can be with us," he said. "Everybody is desperate to play. He has been out a few times and we all know how important he is for us."

Goal should lift Marmoush's confidence

Omar Marmoush made his first start against Swansea in almost two months following injury, scoring his first goal since the previous campaign. Guardiola hopes it will lead to the Egyptian gaining belief. "People who play up front score goals and it gives them a lot of confidence," he said. "Hopefully he can continue to grow with his goals and games and everything."

Marmoush scored a jaw-dropping long-range goal against Bournemouth last season in a 3-1 win which went a long way towards ensuring City finished third and qualified for the Champions League.

AFPGuardiola 'Bournemouth are top'

The City boss lavished praise on Bournemouth and their coach Iraola after they rose up to second in the table, four points behind leaders Arsenal, and having lost just one of their nine matches this season. The Cherries' excellent form has been extra impressive after they sold three-quarters of their first-choice back four and parted with forward Dango Outtara in the summer. They have the lowest net spend in the league, turning a profit of £87m.

Guardiola said: "They are top. How coordinated they are with the hierarchy with the sporting directors, with the managers and with the players – they have a clear philosophy and that doesn't change. Of course players change and other things but it is impressive. When you lose three or four players from a back four to Real Madrid and Liverpool and you reimburse the team and do it in that way it is because they have a lot of good work behind them."

Atualmente, o time carioca é o 18º colocado do Brasileirão, com 16 pontos.

Newcastle now keen to sign £70m Champions League winner similar to Tonali

Newcastle United are in the mix to sign an “extraordinary” Champions League winner, with the player in question compared to Magpies midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Howe proud despite Newcastle defeat

The Magpies were beaten 2-1 at home to Barcelona on Thursday evening, with a stunning St James’ Park atmosphere not quite doing enough to help their side get a positive result, despite a late consolation from Anthony Gordon.

Newcastle’s performance was impressive on the whole, with the hosts dominating the first half, in particular, but Barca’s quality shone through, not least when it came to Marcus Rashford’s second goal of the night.

Despite the result, Eddie Howe still tried to be positive, speaking of his pride at the performance, as his team showed they could match one of Europe’s best teams for long periods.

“There was a lot of effort, commitment and heart from the players. It was a good performance, without being a great one, and to beat Barcelona, I think you need a great one. We had the chances – two big moments in that first half – but we didn’t take them. Unfortunately, when you concede the first goal, the game swings on that moment.”

Newcastle keen on signing "extraordinary" Real Madrid star

According to Caught Offside, Newcastle are among the clubs who are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga in 2026.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also mentioned as options for the £70m-rated midfielder, with the two-time Champions League winner out of contract at Madrid in the summer of 2029.

Camavinga would be a huge statement signing by Newcastle, considering the Frenchman is arguably considered one of the best central midfielders in Europe currently, also being able to do a job at left-back. He has also been likened to Tonali, in terms of style.

The Madrid ace has been hailed as “extraordinary” by Carlo Ancelotti, which is high praise from a legendary manager, while Paul Pogba lauded his quality back in 2021, following his debut for France.

“It is a pleasure to see him don the [France] shirt. To score after his first start [against Ukraine in a friendly], that is honestly wonderful. I was truly happy for him. I only wish him the best and much more. He has everything for that. His future is in his hands. He is very at ease, he is a little dancer. He makes me think a bit about me. He is not a timid person.”

Whether Camavinga is eyeing a move away from Madrid remains to be seen – his contract situation means big money would still be needed to get him – but if Xabi Alonso doesn’t consider him an important part of his plans, Newcastle should be looking to swoop.

Imagine him & Fofana: Celtic agree move "in the last hour" to sign £5m star

Celtic are running out of time before the end of the summer transfer window, as they look to reinforce their attack before the deadline passes at 11 pm.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph claims that the club have made a loan approach to sign David Datro Fofana from Chelsea to bolster their centre-forward options, with Adam Idah on his way to Swansea.

David Datro Fofana.

The journalist claims that the Ivorian marksman is one of two strikers wanted by the Hoops before the deadline, as Brendan Rodgers looks to find his new main number nine.

Celtic agree deal to sign winger

New strikers are not the only thing on the agenda for the Scottish Premiership champions, though, as they are also looking to bring in another wide player.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

According to the aforementioned Joseph, Celtic have agreed a fee with Hammarby IF to sign winger Sebastian Tounekti in a deal that is worth up to £5.2m.

The reporter claims that a deal has been agreed “in the last hour” after their first two offers for the attacker were turned down by the Swedish outfit.

Joseph adds that the Hoops are now in a “race against time” to complete all the documents, and that personal terms are not expected to be an issue, which suggests that the player is keen to make the switch to Glasgow before the window slams shut.

What Sebastien Tounekti could bring to Celtic

The Tunisia international is a versatile forward who mainly plays on the left, but can also play on the right, and he could be an exciting partner for Fofana if the club can get both of those deals over the line.

Fofana scored four goals in 15 Premier League matches for Burnley in the 2023/24 campaign, and ranked up 15 goals in 24 games or Molde in 2022 before his move to Chelsea, per Sofascore.

These achievements show that he does have the potential to score goals at the top level, and to score goals consistently when selected, and Tounekti is a player who could help him get back on the goal trail.

As you can see in the table above, the Tunisian maestro has been one of the most creative wide players in the Allsvenskan in 2025, ranking very highly for xA and assists.

This suggests that he is the kind of winger who strikers love to play with because he is constantly looking to create high-quality opportunities for them in front of goal.

Now, imagine Tounekti supplying Fofana with chance after chance in front of goal at Parkhead. It may be better to watch than what Celtic supporters have been put through recently, with zero goals scored in three of the last four games in all competitions.

Worse than Nygren: Rodgers must drop Celtic flop who "offered little"

Celtic must drop their flop who was even worse than Benjamin Nygren against Rangers.

However, nothing is done until it is done and Celtic still have plenty of work to do before they can start to seriously think about having both of these players in the XI to face Kilmarnock.
