West Ham: Rice & Soucek backed for Man Utd

David Sullivan must block all approaches for Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek this summer, after Keith Gillespie claimed the West Ham duo are perfect for Manchester United.

The Red Devils product has been speaking with This Is Futbol, and suggested the Irons duo would “walk into” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

Reports by 90min have linked the Old Trafford natives with a move for Rice this off-season, but the England international is a player of interest for a host of top Premier League sides.

Manchester United have allegedly revived their interest in Rive over recent months, as club chiefs believe the 22-year-old can fill a hole in midfield and provide cover at centre-back.

Liverpool, Manchester City and Chelsea – who were quoted £80m last year – are also said to be tracking Rice, but Gillespie agrees with talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara in that he can see the West Ham product wearing the red of his former side in the future.

“I’m really impressed. I probably agree, they probably would walk into Man United’s team,” Gillespie said. “That probably shows how badly they need midfielders.

“You’ve got [Nemanja] Matic, who’s coming towards the end. You’ve got Fred, who – for all his hard work and endeavour – gives the ball away too much. You’ve got [Scott] McTominay, who at times looks the part and at times doesn’t.”

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/the-latest-west-ham-news-and-views-2″ title=”The latest West Ham news and views!”]

Any side wishing to sign Rice this summer faces having to pay £100m, while Soucek is expected to have a list of suitors after proving to be a crucial part of West Ham’s surprise push for a European qualifying berth.

But even at £100m for Rice and however much the Irons demand for Soucek – who has a TransferMarkt valuation of £36m – Sullivan should be blocking all approaches, as the pair are too key to what David Moyes is building at the London Stadium.

The reports of Manchester United’s interest in Rice also claimed that players like Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones had come up in discussions of a part-exchange potentially involving Jesse Lingard, but West Ham would be taking a step back by accepting those terms.

“When you look at say, Liverpool, and you had Fabinho that would play that role for Liverpool and do that really well – sit and let other people go forward. I’d put N’Golo Kante in that bracket, that’s what Declan Rice does for West Ham,” Tony Cascarino told talkSPORT following news he had sustained a lateral knee ligament injury.

“He sits, he picks things, he can see things, the players trust him around him and he does the A,B,C’s of football – the simplistic things that affect a team – really well. He keeps the ball, so it is a huge blow; it is that N’Golo Kante, it’s that Fabinho role that he does brilliantly well. Fine lines, small margins make massive differences.”

Meanwhile Soucek has helped to transform the engine room at the London Stadium by adding a box-to-box machine, capable of offering defensive support and the final touch with a team-high nine goals in 30 Premier League games this term.

“He has been awesome. He has transformed West Ham, he really has. What a player he’s been for them,” O’Hara told talkSPORT last month. “A great signing that went under the radar, but his performances have been absolutely exceptional.

“If you’re Soucek and you’re having the season you are and say Man United come along, because Man United need a player like him, he’d walk into their team with his energy, his runs and scores goals.”

But no matter how much Manchester United need players like Soucek and Rice, Sullivan should put an endless stream of hurdles between them as cashing-in would no doubt break Moyes and the plans he has developed.

Felizmente, tenho me recuperado muito bem. Agora, entro na fase crucial da recuperação para já chegar 100% na pré-temporada. É o que eu espero – comenta.

Man United Predicted XI vs Leicester

Manchester United will be aiming to follow-up their progression to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals with a Wembley date in the FA Cup.

The Red Devils travel to the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a semi-final place at stake.

Will Ole Gunnar Solskjaer be tempted to make many changes from the starting XI that managed to claim a big victory in Milan?

Here’s the XI we think he’ll select…

We are predicting as many as many as three changes from the Norwegian at the weekend.

The first of those will likely be between the sticks where David de Gea is available to make his return.

The £19.8m-rated Spaniard has not been in the team since late February so this game could be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce him.

United’s goalkeeper, however, will be supported by an unchanged defence with former Leicester star Harry Maguire marshaling a back-four of himself, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw.

With his winning goal against AC Milan, Paul Pogba also fired himself into contention to start this game. The Frenchman could come into midfield to replace Scott McTominay who could be due a rest. Pogba will line up alongside Fred in the heart of the Red Devils’ midfield.

The real selection problems start occurring for Solskjaer in attack. Marcus Rashford is out of contention with a problem he picked up against Milan, whilst Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial remain doubts.

This will see the likes of Daniel James, Mason Greenwood and Bruno Fernandes remain, whilst Amad Diallo could potentially be afforded a rare start amongst the attacking injury crisis.

Gers fans laud Morelos

Many Glasgow Rangers fans were delighted with Alfredo Morelos after his antics on the bench during the Gers’ 4-0 victory over Cove Rangers in the Scottish Cup on Sunday.

The Gers were in fantastic form as they progressed to the fourth round of the competition. They scored all of their goals in the first 45 minutes, with Kemar Roofe bagging a brace and Jermain Defoe and Nathan Patterson netting one apiece. The 55-time Scottish champions’ reward for winning will be a tie against Celtic at Ibrox.

Morelos was on the bench for the game on Sunday and didn’t get on to the pitch. However, the 24-year-old still seemed to be enjoying himself, and was pictured having a laugh with his teammates, including club captain James Tavernier. As per Daily Record, TV cameras caught the Colombia international throwing scraps of paper towards the skipper and Roofe.

A video of his antics was shared on Twitter by @kirsten93_, and it attracted plenty of attention from Gers supporters. These fans took to the social media platform to share their thoughts, with one drawing comparisons between Morelos and charismatic former Ibrox star Paul Gascoigne.

Let’s see what the fans had to say about Morelos below

Sanchez’s Spurs future in doubt after City

Davinson Sanchez’s future with Tottenham under Jose Mourinho looks to be in serious doubt after his nightmare display against Manchester City at the weekend.

The Portuguese manager has rotated between Sanchez, Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Joe Rodon at centre-back for much of the season but has been unable to find a reliable pairing in recent weeks, with the North London club having now shipped eight goals in their last two fixtures.

Spurs lost 5-4 against Everton in midweek, and whilst Sanchez scored twice in that game, former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara labelled the Colombian the worst player on the pitch at Goodison Park.

The former Ajax man followed this up with another disastrous performance against City, in which he was well and truly embarrassed by Ilkay Gundogan after Ederson’s long ball caught him out.

It has been well documented that in Manchester United’s Europa League final win against Ajax in 2017, Mourinho encouraged his players to target Sanchez as he believed he wasn’t good enough on the ball, so it is perhaps not a surprise that he has been left on the bench for a lot of games this season.

When discussing the centre-back on talkSPORT earlier this season, Tony Cascarino struggled to comprehend how a man Mourinho had specifically targeted was now at the heart of his defence, saying:

“That was one of the tactics that Jose used thinking he was a weakness. He’s now in the heart of the defence of Spurs. A guy that Jose obviously didn’t rate and saw as a weak link on the night and tried to expose him and they did.

“That tells you everything you need to know about that back four.”

Sanchez has struggled to ever rediscover the form he showed in his first two seasons with Spurs and has averaged a shocking 6.43 rating for his performances in the Premier League this season, which is significantly worse than the likes of Dier and Alderweireld.

Therefore, after his latest disaster, it is hard to see Sanchez recovering and establishing himself as a regular for Mourinho in the Premier League, so it is fair to suggest that the £36 million-rated man could well be finished at the North London club should the Portuguese manager remain in charge this summer.

And, in other news… Spurs dud was dribbled past five times against City; he’s not good enough for Mourinho

Spurs: Romano on interest in Eriksen

Speaking on Monday to Sky Sports News’ Transfer Talk show, Fabrizio Romano provided a rather intriguing claim on Christian Eriksen’s possible move back to Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking on Transfer Talk, transcribed by Sky Sports, Romano claimed that Eriksen ‘wants to leave Inter [Milan]’ this month and that the £31.5 million-rated midfielder would ‘love’ a move back to the Premier League, particularly to Spurs.

The journalist continued by stating that he was ‘sure’ Jose Mourinho’s side will ‘try’ for Eriksen ‘in the coming days’, although a move will not be easy due to the midfielder’s reported weekly wages of £229,000 at the Serie A side.

Romano also said that Inter are requesting that Tottenham ‘pay a fee for his loan’ if he were to join the club, as Antonio Conte’s side paid Spurs £24.3 million for the Denmark international just 12 months ago, as well as mentioning that there are ‘other clubs from the Premier League’ talking with Eriksen’s agents regarding a move.

Transfer Tavern Take

While it is true that Spurs could use the injection of a player who has racked up 110 goals and provided 157 assists over the course of his career, as Mourinho’s side have been heavily reliant on Harry Kane and Son Heung-min to both create and finish chances in the league this season, Eriksen has not exactly been in the best form of late, managing just four goals and three assists over his 40 appearances at Inter.

In addition to this, as Romano mentions, the 28-year-old’s wages in Milan would also appear to provide something of a stumbling block for a move to Spurs, as the club are already reportedly forking out a whopping £240,000 per week on their barely used loan signing, Gareth Bale.

Liverpool could seal shock transfer swoop for Man City centre-back Eric Garcia

Liverpool have been linked with a shock move for Manchester City defender Eric Garcia recently, and the Spanish defender could prove to be an excellent addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

The 19-year-old’s contract with City is set to expire at the end of the current season and he has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, where he started his career in the La Masia academy.

In his career, he has made 30 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side and established himself in the City first-team last season, making 13 appearances in the Premier League, averaging a 6.69 rating.

However, it seems that he was not willing to sign a new contract with the club, as he refused City’s offer and made it clear that he wanted to leave, with it also suggested that the Citizens would demand £30 million for his services.

This was in the summer, however, and you imagine that as we get closer to his contract expiring, his value will decrease dramatically, especially as Barcelona could begin negotiations with him in January with the view to signing him on a free transfer.

Therefore, despite Liverpool being direct rivals in the Premier League, City may well be tempted to sell to the Merseyside club in January at a cut-price deal, rather than potentially receiving nothing for him if he were to re-join Barcelona.

Whilst Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips have impressed filling in at centre-back this season, the injury-prone nature of Joel Matip suggests that Klopp could continue to be short of defensive options throughout the season unless the Reds add to their squad in next month’s transfer window.

Therefore, completing a deal for the £18 million rated Garcia would make a lot of sense, as he has already shown his ability to play at the very top with Guardiola’s side.

Guardiola was full of praise for the young defender earlier this year, saying:

“He doesn’t make mistakes, he’s always focused and this game we knew we would play against dynamic, fast players.”

Liverpool would definitely be signing a player who is already capable of playing in the Premier League and is still just 19-years-old, so it would be a great piece of business from Michael Edwards if he could seal a bargain deal for the City ace in January.
