Eu fiz muitos amigos no Brasil – dentro do SPFC e fora do clube.

Você merece sucesso e felicidade no futuro
Obrigado a todos”

Newcastle injury news on Dubravka

Steve Bruce has now revealed an update on Martin Dubravka’s injury ahead of Newcastle United’s game at home to Leeds United in the Premier League.

The Lowdown: Setback

Speaking in his pre-game press conference ahead of the match against Burnley in the Carabao Cup second round back in August, Bruce had confirmed (via Sky Sports) that Dubravka had suffered a setback in his recovery from injury.

The Slovakia international’s wounds had got ‘infected’, which set him back a ‘couple of weeks’.

The Latest: Update

Speaking ahead of the clash against Marcelo Bielsa’s team at St. James’ Park, Bruce has now revealed that Dubravka is ‘coming along nicely’, and added that the wound which was badly affected has ‘gone’.

Bruce says that the goalkeeper is ‘hoping to be back on the grass next week’, which is ‘good news’ for the North East club.

The Verdict: Big boost

It certainly is great news to hear that Dubravka should be back playing on Tyneside soon.

Third-choice ‘keeper Freddie Woodman has had to step in so far this season given that Karl Darlow has also not been available, and has conceded the most goals in the top flight (12) after four games (Premier League).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-updates/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

His performance in the 4-1 away loss to Manchester United in particular was criticised, and so the Magpies could now do with Dubravka’s experience in between the posts, even despite Darlow’s return.

Nonetheless, the Toon need to start picking up results, and fast, with their Slovakian shot-stopper sure to be crucial in that process.

Umar Amin new face in Pakistan's 15-man squad

Nineteen-year-old batsman Umar Amin has been rewarded for his impact on the domestic season with a call-up to Pakistan’s 15-man squad for the first ODI against Sri Lanka on January 21 in Karachi. The team, the first picked by a new-look selection committee headed by Abdul Qadir, has gone back to traditional Pakistani strength, pace, but is not entirely without surprise.Amin was the second-highest run-getter in last month’s RBS Pentangular One-Day Cup, scoring 254 runs at an average of 84.66 and strike-rate of 89.12. A sound left-hand top-order batsman, he has impressed on several Under-19 tours and was also part of Pakistan’s Under-19 squad at last year’s World Cup in Malaysia.”He is a real prospect and the coach and captain were both keen to have him in the squad, to encourage him and groom him further,” Salim Jaffer, one of the selectors, told Cricinfo. “He has impressed a number of people this season.”But pace it is that dominates Pakistan’s thinking ahead of the three-match series. Sohail Khan returns having missed the Abu Dhabi series against West Indies in November as does the skiddy, all-round option of Yasir Arafat. Ahead of both are the first-choicers, Shoaib Akhtar, Sohail Tanvir, Umar Gul and Iftikhar Anjum, thus giving Pakistan six options. The wickets, it is a given, will be quicker and bouncier than have been seen in recent times.”The selection committee spoke to the coach Intikhab Alam about the plan for the series and we have picked a squad according to that,” Jaffer said. “Our strength is pace and we believe our options there are stronger than Sri Lanka’s so we have gone for that.”But there are some surprises in this squad, prime among them the exclusion of Nasir Jamshed. Arguably Pakistan’s find of a lean year in 2008, Jamshed has been overlooked despite being in the runs domestically. Jamshed missed the Abu Dhabi matches after pulling out at the last minute with an illness and was replaced by Khurram Manzoor.A fair rather than spectacular return in those three ODIs has meant Manzoor retains his place over Jamshed, though it is learnt the spot was the focus of considerable debate and disagreement between the committee. One selector was in favour, but was ultimately ruled over by the other two. There was also some friction over the dropping of Fawad Alam, the allrounder, who has become a regular squad fixture over the last year. As much as a lack of impact, it is thought Pakistan’s preference for pace in this contest went against him.The only spinner in the squad is offspinner Saeed Ajmal, which means there’s no place yet for legspinner Danish Kaneria, who was hopeful of a one-day call-up with the change in the PCB management. Kaneria was surprisingly promoted to the top grade of central contracts and noises coming from the new management had suggested he may get a look-in under these selectors, having long been outside of Pakistan’s ODI thinking. But a poor showing in the Pentangular one-dayers seems to have gone against him for the moment.Sri Lanka’s visit will be the first test for Shoaib Malik after he was given an indefinite extension as the team’s captain earlier this month.Pakistan squad : Shoaib Malik (capt), Misbah-ul-Haq, Salman Butt, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal (wk) , Sohail Tanvir, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, Iftikhar Anjum, Saeed Ajmal, Khurram Manzoor, Sohail Khan, Yasir Arafat, Umar Amin.

ICC forced to backtrack on all-time player rankings

The ICC has been forced to issue a hasty media release after criticism of its rankings following its announcement that Matthew Hayden was rated as the 10th-best Test batsmen of all time

Cricinfo staff16-Jan-2009The ICC has been forced to issue a hasty media release after criticism of its rankings following Wednesday’s announcement that Matthew Hayden was rated as the 10th-best Test batsmen of all time. One newspaper said that it had been forced into a “damage-limitation exercise” after the top 10 did not feature Sachin Tendulkar, ranked at No. 26.”This does not necessarily mean he is the 10th-best Test batsman or 18th-best ODI batsman in the history of the game,” an ICC spokesman said. “The rankings give an indication of how players peaked during their careers but do not give a full picture of those players’ level of consistency or longevity in the game.”The rankings are a great way to compare the performances of players but the all-time list of highest-rated players does not by itself rank those players in terms of true greatness. For that reason some players, who are considered by most observers of the game to be truly great, such as Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Wally Hammond, Greg Chappell and others, do not feature in the top 20 in the all-time high ratings.”But many remained far from convinced. “I am appalled at the ICC’s methods of devising the best batsman and the best bowler,” fumed Kapil Dev. “It is all the more disappointing when I see that the names of Gavaskar and Tendulkar do not figure on the top.”India’s former left-arm spinner Maninder Singh labelled the rankings a “joke” and said “sadistic” ICC officials should stop coming out with such lists. Even former BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah was moved to describe the rankings system as laughable.”I don’t know if anyone takes this ranking system seriously, it has no bearing on anybody,” Shah told the Sydney Morning Herald. “There are so many other companies in India doing these sorts of rankings and the ICC just wants to get some publicity for their own system.”

– A ideia do desafio é poder ajudar.

Dean Henderson wants loan move away

Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is reportedly pushing to leave the club on loan in January after David de Gea’s return to form.

What’s the story?

According to The Sun, the 24-year-old is keen to leave his boyhood club during the winter window after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

It was believed that Henderson was due to be named as the club’s No.1 shot-stopper this season ahead of De Gea until the England international suffered from long Covid, forcing him out of action in the opening weeks of the campaign.

Manchester United fans may be worried

Henderson first rose to prominence during an impressive two-year loan spell at Sheffield United, first helping them win promotion from the Championship in 2018/19 before playing a pivotal part in their ninth-place finish in the Premier League a year later.

His standout performances with the south Yorkshire outfit earned praise from several impressed onlookers, including his former teammate Sander Berge.

“He’s insane. I’ve never been with such a good goalkeeper. One thing in matches, he is almost a defence alone at times, and you feel so secure with him,” the midfielder said in an interview Norwegian outlet VG.

“But people have to see him at training. It’s crazy. He saves balls from one yard. Sometimes I am completely speechless by how good he is. It’s like having two goalkeepers in goal with him. He’s awesome.

“He’s so confident. He knows he is good, and he exploits that too. He is exceptional,” Berge concluded.

Henderson’s magnificent showing saw the ‘keeper return to his parent club last year where he battled De Gea for a place in the starting lineup.

After initially only playing in the cup competitions, the £19.8m-rated gem was awarded his first league start for the Red Devils in March. And Henderson made a good start to life as United’s No.1, keeping three clean sheets in a row.

However, his performance levels began to drop off towards the end of the campaign, and a string over high-profile errors, including mistakes against Liverpool and AC Milan, saw De Gea reinstated as first-choice.

Despite this, it could still be a mistake for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to let the youngsters depart Manchester during the current campaign.

Without genuine competition, De Gea’s performance levels may drop off, and if the Spaniard gets injured, United will be left with an ageing Tom Heaton as a replacement, someone who couldn’t get into Burnely or Aston Villa’s starting lineup in recent years.

It remains to be seen where Henderson’s future lies, both in the short-term and long-term, but the club’s supporters may be worried about this latest revelation as Solskjaer could do with keeping him around until the summer at least, providing United with the best chance of ending the club’s current trophy drought.

All-round Smith carries Barbados

A round-up of the second day of the sixth-round matches of the regional four-day competition

Powered by Adrian Barath’s 192 and five wickets from young left-arm slow bowler Imran Khan, Trinidad & Tobago took complete control over Leeward Islands at St Augustine. Leewards had done well to reduce T&T from 280 for 4 to 349, thanks to Gavin Tonge’s six wickets, but their batsmen struggled to hand the home side a lead of 141 by stumps.Barath resumed on 163 and looked set for a maiden double-century, but Tonge bowled him eight short. That sparked a collapse of six wickets for just 27 runs, with Tonge taking a career-best 6 for 86. Leewards were off to a shaky start, with Ravi Rampaul striking early blows. It was Imran, however, who did the most damage with his slow stuff. Having never picked up a first-class wicket in five previous appearances, Imran took five in 69 deliveries. His strikes included the only half-centurions, Montcin Hodge (55) and Omari Bankas (55).The T&T openers added 13 in the remaining two overs of the day.Dwayne Smith continued his excellent match in Crab Hill, hitting a century to almost single-handedly carry Barbados to 271 against Combined Colleges and Campuses. Barbados’ bowlers backed up Smith’s efforts by reducing CCC to 128 for 5, a lead of just 55.Smith’s four wickets had helped Barbados bundle out CCC for 198, but his batting proved far more crucial. There was only one half-century, Kevin Stoute’s 50, in what was an otherwise disappointing batting card. From an overnight 53 for 2, Bardados found themselves 55 for 4 as Kevin McClean struck in the morning. Smith and Stoute added 160 there on, Smith being the dominant partner, but CCC again hit back to reduce Barbados from 215 for 5 to 271. Smith’s 155 was an outstanding effort indeed. With a 73-run lead, Barbados came out enthused. Their new-ball pairing of Pedro Collins and Corey Collymore, former West Indian fast bowlers alike, left CCC 8 for 3. Life was breathed back into the innings thanks to Chadwick Walton (46) and Romel Currency (56), but a double-strike by Nikolai Charles left Barbados in a strong position.A century to Donovan Pagon and 97 from David Bernard carried Jamaica to 441, after which Andrew Richardson took a wicket before stumps at the Providence Stadium. Guyana’s bowlers were made to work hard on the second day as Jamaica rallied from 149 for 3 to a large total. Pagon, who resumed on 39, lost the experience Wavell Hinds (42) early in the day but with Bernard, added 101 before he was run out for 105. Bernard found support from Keith Hibbert (37) and Nikita Miller (45) but was unlucky to miss a century bu a shave. Jamaica declared eight wickets down before Richardson bowled Shemroy Barrington for a duck in the four overs left in the day.

Wolves fans on line-up vs Southampton

Many Wolves fans have been left fuming as the confirmed line-up for their game away at Southampton in the Premier League emerged.

As per the club’s official Twitter channel, Bruno Lage has stuck to a five-at-the-back formation, as Hwang Hee-chan gets a chance to impress from the start.

However, a lot of big names have been dropped to the bench, and some fans seem especially angry that stalwarts Adama Traore, Ruben Neves and Willy Boly have all been left out of the team to face the Saints at St Mary’s this afternoon.

Nonetheless, Lage has clearly picked the line-up which he thinks will give them the best possible chance of getting all three points, and it will no doubt be interesting to see how the match plays out.

These Wolves supporters fumed as the line-up was shared on Twitter, with one fan describing the starting XI chosen by the Portuguese as ‘insane’:
