O Botafogo teve pela primeira vez em campo a dupla Camilo e Montillo na vitória por 2 a 1 sobre o Colo-Colo, na última quarta-feira, no estádio Nilton Santos. Apesar da natural falta de entrosamento neste início, a parceria foi aprovada pelos meias. Segundo o camisa 10 alvinegro, eles ainda vão dar muitas alegrias para a torcida do Glorioso.

What’s the story?

Reports last summer suggested that Marcelo Bielsa’s side were very much interested in bringing the Argentina international to Elland Road, while The Athletic’s Phil Hay recently claimed that the midfielder actually wants to come to the Premier League to join up with the Whites.

In fact, reports from Football Insider even suggested that Leeds were “laying down the groundwork” for a big-money move for De Paul this summer, and that he was one of their “top targets” for the transfer window.

But now, via his official Twitter account, Romano revealed: “Rodrigo de Paul is set to join Atlético Madrid, confirmed. €35m final fee. After opening talks two weeks ago, Atléti now closing on final details to complete the agremeent. Contract until June 2026 to be signed soon.”

Bielsa will be gutted

The news that De Paul is now close to join Atletico Madrid will be a hammer blow to Bielsa, who pursued him last summer and looked as though he wanted him again this time around too.

The Argentine midfielder enjoyed a superb campaign in Serie A last season, scoring nine goals and providing a further 11 assists in all competitions, and Bielsa would surely have loved to have had the box-to-box dynamo at Elland Road – the Leeds boss’ highest-scoring central midfielder was Mateusz Klich with four.

Meanwhile, Udinese coach Luca Gotti, said: “Rodrigo is not the only one we have here who has a bright future but he can play for all the top clubs. Any team in the world. I mean, he starts for Lionel Messi’s Argentina. I’ve been able to watch this metamorphosis from up close, the shift in mentality that turns a good player into a top player, a champion.

“He’s become a leader and is the first person to demand more of himself. Rodrigo is able to pass that work ethic on to his team-mates.”

Nottingham Forest have been handed a boost in their bid to bring Jerry Yates to The City Ground this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by the Lancashire Telegraph, who claim that Blackpool are yet to receive any contact from Blackburn Rovers regarding a move for the 24-year-old striker, with Rovers having been reported to be one of the many Championship clubs interested in a move for the £90k-rated man this summer.

Nottingham Forest and Bristol City are another two sides reported to be keeping a close eye on the situation of Yates, for whom Blackpool are believed to be demanding a fee of around £5m in order to part with in the coming months.

Hughton will be buzzing

With Forest appearing to be in desperate need of a fresh face up front ahead of their upcoming Championship campaign, the news that Yates remains an available player is sure to be news that will leave Chris Hughton buzzing.

Indeed, over his 47 League One appearances for Neil Critchley’s side last season, the £2.1k-per-week man scored a whopping 21 goals, provided eight assists and created six big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.9 shots and making one key pass per game.

These returns saw the striker earn a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.99, ranking him as Blackpool’s sixth-best performer in the third tier of English football, with the 24-year-old playing a crucial role in his side’s promotion to the Championship.

Yates also scored a further two goals and provided one assist in the club’s run in the FA Cup, returns that took the centre-forward’s haul for the season to 23 goals and nine assists.

And, with Lewis Grabban only managing six goals for Forest in the Championship last season, while Lyle Taylor scored an even less impressive four league goals, it would indeed appear as if Hughton could do with the addition of a forward who can put the ball in the back of the net on a much more regular basis next season.

As such, the fact that the man whom Critchley dubbed an “outstanding” player is still available this summer is sure to come as delightful news for the Forest manager, although he better act quickly if he wants to ensure that Yates does indeed make a move to The City Ground, rather than anywhere else, this summer.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has spoken with new Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou ahead of a possible new Parkhead deal.

The Lowdown: Griffiths’ Celtic history

The 30-year-old has been at Celtic Park for over seven years now and has enjoyed plenty of success in Glasgow.

Griffiths, who at this moment in time is out of contract at the end of the month, has scored 123 goals in 262 Hoops appearances, while also chipping in with 51 assists.

He started just nine games last season, though, appearing to fall out of favour under Neil Lennon and John Kennedy.

Griffiths has won 13 major honours with Celtic since 2014, and it seems as if his time at Parkhead may not be up just yet.

The Latest: Forward speaks out

As reported by BBC, Griffiths, on £15,000-a-week at Parkhead, revealed he has spoken with Postecoglou, who has made it clear to him he is keen for the striker to remain at the club.

“To me, it feels like a fresh start with the new manager, whether he brings in new staff or not.

“He phoned me last week and said ‘I am keen to work with you, I know what you can do’. He wants me to get back to the player I once was. We are looking for a deal and hopefully it can be done in the next few days.”

The Verdict: A good move by Postecoglou?

Keeping hold of Griffiths could well be a smart move by Postecoglou. Even though he may not be a regular starter week in week out, he knows just what it takes to succeed at Celtic and still knows where the back of the net is.

It looks set to be a summer rebuild at Celtic Park. Scott Brown has left for Aberdeen, Kristoffer Ajer has shared his intentions to move on, Odsonne Edouard is expected to depart and Ryan Christie has been linked with a move to Monaco.

That could be five experienced players out of the door, so hanging onto an experienced first-team member like Griffiths could be a shrewd decision in Postecoglou’s first campaign in the Parkhead dugout.
