Na véspera da final da Copa do Brasil, torcedores do Cruzeiro foram até o hotel onde o Flamengo está hospedado em Belo Horizonte e promoveram um foguetório para tentar atrapalhar o sono dos jogadores rubro-negros.

A queima de fogos começou por volta de 2h e incomodou os hóspedes do hotel, o que fez com que duas viaturas fossem até o local após um chamado da administração. Além da polícia, foram colocados seguranças na parte dos fundos do hotel para evitar novos transtornos.

Flamengo e Cruzeiro se enfrentam nesta quarta-feira, às 21h45, em busca do título da Copa do Brasil. No jogo de ida, as equipes empataram por 1 a 1 no Maracanã. Qualquer empate no Mineirão leva a decisão para os pênaltis, uma vez que o gol fora de casa não é critério de desempate para a final.

This was as emphatic a win as Yorkshire could have imagined over a Nottinghamshire side that ought to be higher in the table but the notion that the race for the title is as good as over can be dismissed as premature.Yorkshire have a 33-point lead as things stand, at least over Sussex and Middlesex, but the margin may well be cut by Durham before the weekend is complete, unless the weather has a major say at Chester-le-Street. Durham, with a match in hand, are next up for Yorkshire at Scarborough, followed by Sussex at Hove and Middlesex at Headingley. The title may be Yorkshire’s to lose – but one sub-standard performance might give the table a different look quite quickly.This is the thought in Martyn Moxon’s mind at least. “I think we’ve shown we’re capable of winning [the title],” Yorkshire’s director of cricket said. “If you take the first game of the season against Sussex out of it, we’ve played some fantastic cricket for the last 11 games.”But we have to close it out. We’re trying not to get too far ahead of ourselves. We know we have some tough games and we have Durham, Sussex and Middlesex – the top teams – all to play yet, and Surrey in the last game are going to be scrapping as well.”We’ve won nothing yet and over four games a lot can happen, with a lot of points available. We’re enjoying the wins as everyone does but the first words the captain said in the dressing room after the game were ‘let’s just keep doing what we’re doing and not get carried away’.”It might be an idea to summon Mick Newell to deliver a few words ahead of the Durham match if they want to give some context to this performance, impressive though it was at times, especially when Ryan Sidebottom and Steve Patterson were taking it in turns to make batsmen of international pedigree seem relatively ordinary.The two seamers shared 12 wickets in the match, with Sidebottom’s seven a painful reminder to the Notts director of cricket that his bowling resources need a fair amount of rebuilding yet to restore the standards that prevailed before Sidebottom left two years ago, in search of a longer contract than Notts were prepared to offer.”Over the first two days we were really outplayed by Yorkshire but our bowling in the first innings allowed Yorkshire to dominate the match,” he said. “We have not taken 20 wickets in a match since May and if you don’t take 20 wickets you don’t win. Chris Read, whose lack of form with the bat this year has been another factor in his side’s modest season, completed his first half-century this year. Not since 2003 has the captain and wicketkeeper completed a first-class season without a century, or contributed between 700 and 1200 runs.In the event, they obliged Yorkshire to bat again, thanks to Read and another lively thrash by Adams, his second in the match, but three boundaries in five deliveries by Adam Lyth, whose 95 was the highest score in the game, completed the job without fuss.Sidebottom’s seven wickets neatly took him to 597 in his first-class career, one more than his father, Arnie, achieved and from 43 fewer matches.”I suppose it’s an honour and a privilege really to go past dad,” he said. “He had a fantastic career himself and to follow in his footsteps was something I’ve always wanted to do.”I’ll give him a buzz in a bit with a beer in my hand and I might buy him a bottle of whisky to say I’ve gone past him. They are desperate to move up the ICC ladder, but joining the elite of world cricket can often feel a harder job that breaking into Fort Knox.There remains intense frustration within Ireland at the pace that they are able to further their ambitions due to the limited exposure they receive against Full Member nations, who are content to play among themselves in some largely context-less ODI series that fill up the global calendar.Some players, such as the vocal Trent Johnston, are not afraid to suggest it is because teams are “scared” of losing to Ireland, while others take a more measured approach, remaining grateful for what Ireland have and being cautious not to alienate those who do provide the valuable experiences that the team requires.Along with Johnston, Ed Joyce is an elder statesman of Irish cricket – so much so that he left once before returning after dropping off the England radar – and he admitted that living off “crumbs” from other international tours left Ireland “begging” for more opportunities. Joyce believes they have more than proved their worth at the top level.”We are still in the situation where we are almost begging for fixtures, which is obviously not ideal because we feel as a competitive side we have gone past that,” Joyce told ESPNcricinfo at the launch of the RSA Challenge match against England, which will be held on September 3 at Malahide.”It is frustrating that we aren’t getting more fixtures but I wouldn’t want to point fingers. We are simultaneously grateful for teams coming to play against us, but slightly frustrated that more teams don’t. They could have beaten Pakistan in the two-ODI series that preceded the Champions Trophy, competed strongly against Australia A in Belfast, are well clear at the top of the Intercontinental Cup and also lead the World Cricket League one-day table.The ODIs against Pakistan were particularly noteworthy, concluding in a tie and a last-ditch win for Pakistan after Ireland controlled both matches for significant periods. It is frustrating but we realise where we are.”We need to be playing as many of the big sides as we can, but we understand that it is very difficult for them to fit us into an already packed schedule, which we are trying to get around by getting into the FTP in years to come.”The game against England has a dual purpose – to keep showing how we have improved and also if we play well it will create interest in the game. When Ireland beat England at the last World Cup and Pakistan the one before, there was a huge uptake in membership at clubs. I think there is now a club in every county in Ireland – all 32 – which certainl hasn’t been the case for many years.”Evolving domestic cricket in Ireland is crucial to the country’s ambitions. An inter-provincial tournament has been re-launched to try and improve the standards for those who do not play county cricket and ultimately there is a plan to launch a first-class competition so that players can remain in Ireland with a view of building a Test side.The recent debut of Boyd Rankin in England’s Twenty20 against New Zealand has rubber-stamped another player slipping from Ireland’s grasp – even if Rankin had long-since made his intentions clear – although a recent tweak to the ICC regulations means that he would now need only two years to re-qualify for Ireland rather than the four that Joyce had to go through.”I think it’s a fairer rule, because there’s no real option for the likes of Boyd,” Joyce said. “I would like to think Boyd and Eoin Morgan’s generation will be the last who feel they have to make that decision so they can play at the highest level. Boyd is desperate to play Test cricket, and fair play to him, we wish him well.”Now the likes of George Dockrell, Paul Stirling, Stuart Thompson and James Shannon, they have more of a chance to play at a higher level with Ireland. But until we get to a stage where we are regularly playing against top nations – and that will only happen when we attain some higher membership status, either Test status or increased ODI status – I think you might have the odd player who feels they have to make that move to further their own ambitions.”Hopefully the ICC will see that Ireland are improving and are fulfilling all the criteria they want of us to play more teams. The only thing we can do is put in performances against top sides to show what we can do and hope the powers that be listen to our raving and ranting.”

Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League will now begin on September 3, and the players’ recruitment will take place on August 25. It is the fifth such date given by the BCB.

Umpire Nadir Shah’s mercy plea will only be considered after a year of his 10-year suspension is completed.

BCB will seek councillors’ names from all districts and clubs on August 12, and give them 10 days to select the councillors (who will vote to elect BCB directors). In the meantime, they will ask the National Sports Council to set up an election commission and begin the process to elect a BCB president.

Quick bowler Abul Hasan will be sent abroad to seek treatment for his back injury, pending a medical committee’s recommendation.

The BCB has vowed to pay local players their dues from the 2013 Bangladesh Premier League before the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays. The decision was taken at a BCB ad-hoc committee meeting as several franchises have not yet completed payments to the players or the board, after the board conditionally terminated the contracts of some franchises.The BPL’s schedule for the next season is still unclear, and it may even be held before the end of the year if a slot is available in the domestic calendar.”Many of the domestic and foreign players are still unpaid, because the franchises didn’t make payments after the first 25% was cleared,” BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said. “The board has decided to pay 45-50% to the domestic players before Eid-ul-Fitr. According to the tripartite agreement, the board has to pay the players if the franchises fail to make payments.”Before BPL’s second season began, it was announced that player payments would be completed in three instalments. It has now changed to four instalments: the first being before the tournament started, the second during the tournament, the third within three months after the tournament and the last of which is on August 19, six months after the 2013 edition ended.The BCB’s role as guarantor has meant that it has to make payments when the franchises default, according to the three-way agreement between the BCB, players and the franchises. The players who have been paid 25% will receive a further 25%, while those who have already been paid 50%, will have to wait for the rest of the money.Those present in the press conference however could not clarify when the next stage of payment after the Eid one will be. “We will settle what we owe, and look into the future when the time comes,” Mahbubul Anam, another member of the BCB ad-hoc committee said. “We have to clear the due first, and the last payment is at the end of August.”The board is also hopeful that it can have a window for BPL-3 as early as December if the 2012-13 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League is completed by October. Their hope lies in the promise made by the Dhaka Premier League clubs who have apparently assured BCB chief Nazmul Hassan that they will play the league from September and continue to do so in October without the national players.”Since the Dhaka Premier League clubs have said they are willing to play without the national players, we can hold the league in October too,” Yunus said. “In that case we can hold the BPL after the two first-class tournaments – the National Cricket League and Bangladesh Cricket League.”

And all Ricky Ponting needed to do for most of the day was watch from the sidelines.At 37, Vikram Solanki is one of those veterans whose move to The Oval has earned Surrey criticism from a number of directions – not because the former Worcestershire player is a poor signing, by any means, but for the fact his arrival, and that of others, may have blocked the progress of home grown talent.Well, whatever the rights and wrongs of Surrey’s recruitment policy, watching Solanki in prime form has never been anything less than a pleasure. And in terms of what the acting captain’s first hundred in these colours could do for his new county, the hierarchy must feel he is worth every penny.Surrey are without a win in the Championship, and the odds are against them breaking their duck here with only a day remaining. But this was the sort of dominating performance which they were expected to produce on a regular basis in 2013 – and it ought to do wonders for their confidence for the rest of the campaign.In fairness to Sussex, who have lost their position as table-toppers to Yorkshire, the visitors enjoyed the best batting conditions of the match either side of tea when there was barely a cloud in the sky. And while the pitch remained slow, with the odd delivery still sticking in the surface, there was a clear invitation for Surrey to take control.Solanki, who played 51 one-day internationals for England and is currently leading this side because both Graeme Smith and Gareth Batty are injured, needed little encouragement. He had to find a supporting act, though, and, crucially, a perfect one presented itself in the shape of another middle order veteran, Zander de Bruyn.The pair added 177 for the fourth wicket, de Bruyn ending the day unbeaten and just one run short of his own century.Six members of the Sussex line-up had passed 30 on the second day of this game but only Mike Yardy reached 50. And when Surrey openers Rory Burns and Arun Harinath both perished when apparently established, the impression that batsmen could never consider themselves truly ‘in’ on this surface was strengthened.What is more, the dismissal of Ponting – squared up by fellow Australian Steve Magoffin and caught in the slips by Chris Jordan – for only 13 left the battle for first innings supremacy in the balance. Or so it seemed.Jordan, playing against his old county, Magoffin and Jimmy Anyon combined to produce a real threat. And had Jordan speared a yorker through Solanki’s defences early on, instead of seeing it dug out, it is anyone’s guess how the third day would have panned out. Instead, Surrey’s No. 3 was soon driving sumptuously, cutting firmly and taking the initiative away from the hosts.Having reached 50, Solanki pulled Jordan for another emphatic boundary, de Bruyn set about Monty Panesar’s left-arm spin and, for the first time in the match, a big partnership seemed probable rather than just possible.The century stand was sealed with the help of Solanki’s off-driven six against Chris Nash (he later pulled Anyon for another big ‘un) and his hundred came up with a gorgeous cover drive – one of 11 fours. A little punch of delight marked the milestone, then the captain went into overdrive, taking 30 more runs from 17 balls before holing out to long-on.That acceleration underlined Solanki’s belief that there could be some life left in a match which lost its first day to rain. And with de Bruyn staying around to supervise a final morning charge, there is hope for Surrey and a possible nervy survival battle for Sussex.”Once you get in it’s a reasonably good wicket but you have to work hard when you first some in,” said Solanki. “It was very pleasing to score my first first-class hundred for Surrey but more important was that we were able to get into a position where we might be able to exert some pressure on the final day.”
