Man Utd linked to Christopher Nkunku

Manchester United’s new interim manager Ralf Rangnick has reportedly placed RB Leipzig midfielder Christopher Nkunku on his wish list for the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Express (who cite SportBild), the new Old Trafford boss is set to raid his former club for the highly-rated 24-year-old over the coming months as he looks to overhaul his first-team squad.

Nkunku becomes the third current or former Leipzig star to be linked with the Red Devils following the German’s arrival, with Amadou Haidara and Timo Werner also believed to be on their radar.

Ralf Rangnick can get Man Utd firing again

After rising through the ranks at boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain, Nkunku departed the Parc des Princes in search of regular game-time back in 2019.

Since making the €13m (£11m) switch to Leipzig, the versatile midfielder has gone from strength to strength, firmly establishing himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising talents.

In just 21 games in all competitions this season, Nkunku has already bagged 14 goals and provided a further nine assists, including a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Ahead of a recent European showdown with Club Brugge, his manager Jesse Marsch lauded the youngster, describing him as player who always wants to improve.

“We have spoken to Christopher a lot about playing on the counter, and also what he needs to do to play as a striker, a number 10 and on both wings,” Marsch was quoted as saying by the official RB Leipzig website.

“Christopher has no weaknesses. He is young and still wants a lot more. It’s always a good thing when a young player listens to the things we say and also wants to implement them. Working with him is a lot of fun as he is really intelligent and has a lot of potential.”

With Nkunku already familiar with the pressing style that Rangnick is expected to implement at United, the £42.3m-rated gem could be an instant hit at Old Trafford, so the German must make a move.

His arrival would certainly have the potential to get the 20-time English champions rocking again, injecting new life into their disappointing campaign to date.

West Brom fans discuss a move for the rebellious Aboubakar Kamara

[ad_pod ]

West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to discuss a move for Fulham misfit Aboubakar Kamara, who has been linked with a transfer to the Hawthorns following a number of ill-disciplined incidents involving him at Craven Cottage, as reported by The Daily Mail.

The 23-year-old has scored three Premier League goals this season, but was involved in an on-field scuffle with Aleksandar Mitrovic over the taking of a penalty in the 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town – the Serbian is the designated taker, but Kamara took the ball from him and missed his kick.

Amazingly, the Frenchman has also recently been arrested, according to a separate report in The Daily Mail, and could have no future under Claudio Ranieri as his discipline spirals out of control.

Thogden has ranked his top 5 sets of Championship away fans for Pl>ymaker FC. Did your club make the list? Find out in the video below…

As a result of that, the Baggies are interested in bringing the forward to the Midlands to provide added depth to their attack, having lost all of Harvey Barnes, Oliver Burke and Bakary Sako this month.

Given his recent moments of madness, West Brom supporters aren’t too sure over a move for Kamara if their reactions on Twitter are anything to go by…

After winning the toss, Victoria finished with 5 for 127 before dismissing their opponents for 75 in 16 overs for a comprehensive success.New South Wales’ reply started terribly when they were 4 for 8 – Alex Blackwell, Sarah Aley and Alyssa Healy all failed to score – and they couldn’t stop the fall of wickets. Julie Hunter and Clea Smith, the opening bowlers, collected two victims each while Briana Binch grabbed the key wickets of Lisa Sthalekar (9) and Kate Blackwell (7) to eliminate any chance of a recovery. The opener Elyse Villani gave Victoria a strong start with 29 off 27 balls while Jess Cameron’s 27 and Kelly Applebee’s 21 off 15 kept the rate up. Next Saturday the teams have a re-match of sorts as they contest the 50-over-a-side Women’s National Cricket League final at the MCG, where Victoria will look to end New South Wales’ streak of four consecutive titles.”Today was very disappointing,” the captain Sthalekar said. “We were out-played by the Victorians, but we have to move on. The WNCL Final is seven days away and now that becomes our focus.”

Modi served notice over IPL theatre rights

Suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has been served a third notice by the Indian board, this time over the granting of theatrical rights last November for the third season of the tournament

Cricinfo staff31-May-2010Suspended IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has been served a third notice by the Indian board, this time for underselling the theatrical rights of the tournament last November and for awarding the contract for mid-over advertising slots during IPL matches last season without BCCI consent. An IPL official confirmed the notice had been served on Modi on the day he is due to reply to the second notice served on him.Modi has already been sent two notices, one soon after the conclusion of the IPL this year and another after receiving an email from the ECB alleging activities by Modi that are “detrimental to Indian cricket, English cricket and world cricket at large.” Modi, on Monday, filed his reply to the second show cause notice. According to the notice, Modi allegedly talked about setting up a parallel Twenty20 league in England and Wales in which eight existing IPL franchises would bid for nine counties in the United Kingdom. The latest source of trouble, however, surrounds the Rs 330-crore ($71.2 million) deal last November with Entertainment & Sports Direct (ESD), promoted by a Dubai-based private equity firm, for the global theatrical rights to ten seasons of league matches starting with the 2010 season. ESD had won the bid beating out competition from Triplecom Media. The main cause for concern for the Indian board, according to a BCCI source, is that the deal was completely “underpriced”.The board also wants an explanation over the contract for the mid-over advertising during the matches this year. According to the original IPL broadcast deal, Multi-Screen Media (MSM) was offered 2600 seconds to commercially exploit in each of the IPL matches. But, reportedly, Modi suggested the organisers could exploit a further 150 seconds by showing an ad when the ball was not in play between the deliveries in an over. The contract with MSM was revised and Shashank Manohar, the BCCI president, reportedly asked Modi to float a tender at the IPL governing council meeting on March 7 for the additional 150 seconds per match. Instead, it is alleged, Modi awarded the contract on his own to a firm owned by Kunal Dasgupta, who was instrumental in Sony bagging the IPL broadcast rights before the tournament’s inaugural season. “The board is unhappy that he did not even inform the governing council and worse it is the board that owns this [150-second] slot and the money has not come in,” a governing council official informed Cricinfo. On Monday evening, Modi also served a defamation notice on Clarke, giving the ECB chairman seven days to provide a “full and unconditional apology and retraction in a form, manner and terms to be agreed”. Modi said in the notice that Clarke’s claims were “utterly untrue” and that he was never involved in “planning an unauthorised cricket league or tournament anywhere in the world which is not approved either by the ICC or ICC’s member associations”.

Barcelona eye €15m offer to keep Joao Cancelo after Man City loan but may miss out on Joao Felix due to €70m demand from Atletico Madrid

Barcelona eager to retain Cancelo permanentlyMight have to reluctantly let go of Felix Both players do not have a purchase optionGetty ImagesWHAT HAPPENED?

Both players arrived at Barcelona on loan last summer, a move necessitated by the Camp Nou side's financial constraints preventing them from pursuing permanent signings. Despite their temporary status, the Blaugrana are eager to retain both Cancelo and Felix for the upcoming season, with discussions already underway at the Catalan headquarters.

Cancelo, who has impressed with his versatile performances, has seamlessly adapted to various positions on the pitch, including filling in for the injured Alejandro Balde on the left side of defence. They are keen to negotiate a permanent deal with Manchester City and are prepared to offer between €15m (£13m/$16m) and €20 million (£17m/$22m)to secure his services permanently, according to

ATLETICO DEMAND €70M FOR FELIX

Barca signed Felix without a buy option, and although there have been discussions about a permanent transfer, Atletico's hefty demands of €70m (£60m/$76m) make it financially unfeasible for the cash-strapped club. However, the Catalan club allegedly remain open to negotiating another loan deal for the 24-year-old. If they fail to get a deal over the line, they might not be too worried as Felix has struggled to nail down a starting berth for himself in recent weeks, with Pedri being preferred in his inverted left-wing role.

As the club grapples with financial constraints, finding a feasible solution to tie down both Cancelo and Felix remains a challenge for Deco, Barcelona's sporting director. While presidentJoan Laporta has assured fans that they are working on solutions which will allow them to keep the Portuguese duo permanently at the club next season, it remains to be seen if he can walk the talk.

Malan excels as Bopara fails

A century from Dawid Malan acted as the catalyst for a Middlesex victory by 54 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method against Essex

27-Aug-2012
ScorecardDawid Malan smashed the Essex attack around Lord’s in his 108-ball innings of 134•Getty ImagesA century from Dawid Malan acted as the catalyst for a Middlesex victory by 54 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method in their Clydesdale Bank 40 encounter against Essex. But there was no joy with the bat for Ravi Bopara as he became one of three victims for 20 year-old Gurjit Sandhu, who was making his debut in the competition.England allrounder Bopara was given the opportunity by the ECB to play in this match in the hope of rediscovering his form after a recent period of absence from the game for personal reasons, but he had scored only two when he edged a lifting delivery from the young pace bowler behind. In contrast, the 24 year-old Malan played splendidly, deploying controlled and clean hitting aggression in his innings of 134 from 108 deliveries out of a total of 288 all out after he had lost fellow opener Joe Denly without a run on the board.Malan, though, was soon issuing notice of intent, striking four successive deliveries from paceman Maurice Chambers to the boundary and he found an admirable ally in Gareth Berg who came to the crease with the home side 90 for 3. The pair added 132 in 20 overs before Berg edged a ball from Bopara, having struck 61 from 58 balls, to give wicketkeeper James Foster his third catch of the innings. But Malan continued to dictate. His century arrived from 89 balls and by the time he was caught by Chambers at deep long-on, he had hit three sixes and 12 fours. Some shoddy work in the field by the visitors and the concession of six penalty runs for slow-over-rate left them with a challenging target for victory. Their hopes were boosted by a fourth-wicket partnership of 102 in 16 overs involving Tom Westley and Owais Shah who both completed half-centuries. Westley hit 68, his third fifty in his last five CB40 innings, while Shah returned to his former stomping ground with 53 but both were dismissed in successive Paul Stirling overs. With 10 overs remaining, 120 further runs were required with five wickets intact but the task proved well beyond the visitors as the run-rate steadily increased while they also had to contend with fading light. And it was the gloom that brought about a premature end with 29 balls remaining when umpires Rob Bailey and Steve Garratt called off proceedings with Essex 198 for 9 and leaving the impressive Sandhu as the most successful Middlesex bowler with figures of 3 for 28 from six overs.

All-round Baker boosts Leeward Islands

A round-up of the first day of matches from the seventh round of the Regional Four Day Competition

Cricinfo staff27-Feb-2010Leeward Islands hit back superbly to gain the initiative at the end of a see-saw day against Combined Colleges and Campuses in St Lucia. Left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh tore through the top and middle orders – he finished with a maiden five-for – to leave Leewards reeling at 85 for 7 at one stage. But wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton contributed an invaluable 98, adding 122 with Lionel Baker to rescue Leewards and post a respectable 227. Baker, in CCC’s response, was lethal with the ball, taking 3 for 14 to rattle the top order. He was backed up by legspinner Anthony Martin, who took two wickets in his first over, to reduce CCC to 36 for 5 at stumps, still 191 adrift.Guyana got themselves into a comfortable position against Windward Islands in St George’s, reaching 239 for 3 courtesy unbeaten half-centuries from Assad Fudadin and captain Ramnaresh Sarwan. Offspinner Shane Shillingford took all three wickets to fall on the day, and had Guyana in a spot of a bother at 95 for 3. But Fudadin and Sarwan added 144 in a patient stand to turn the game in Guyana’s favour. Sarwan, who finished the day on 81, reached his half-century before Fudadin, pulling medium-pacer Delorn Johnson for a boundary. He had been dropped on 11 by Miles Bascombe, a lapse Windwards were left to rue at stumps.Centuries from opener Brenton Parchment and Danza Hyatt put Jamaica in a strong position against Trinidad and Tobago at St Andrew’s. Jamaica reached 348 for 7 at stumps, though they would have expected to fare far better after their openers had put together a partnership of 200. Legspinner Imran Khan took much of the credit for the T&T fightback, grabbing five for 101 to undermine an intimidating opening stand. Jamaica lost three wickets for 40 after Parchment and Hyatt’s association but Horace Miller’s 66 stabilised the innings. However, there was another burst of wickets, this time four falling for 40 as Imran chipped his way through the line-up to leave Jamaica a touch disappointed at stumps.

Euro U-17 stars today, African superstars tomorrow?

Which of the wonderkids featuring in Israel could become big names for African national sides?

Getty ImagesEl Chadaille Bitshiabu

The towering centre-back will be the rock at the heart of the France backline during the U-17 Euros, where he’ll be keen to bring his outstanding form from Paris Saint-Germain’s Youth League campaign to bear in Israel.

He’s already featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at senior level, although with his route to more playing time with PSG’s first team arguably blocked, the likes of Bayern Munich, ManchesterCity and RB Leipzig are all understood to be monitoring his services.

AdvertisementGetty ImagesDario Essugo

With experience already of having played with Portugal’s U-19 team, Essugo has the potential to dominate contests at the U-17 Euro.

He’s already become Sporting Lisbon’s youngest ever player—a remarkable achievement at such an institution—and the youngster, who’s also eligible for Angola, should impress with his defensive qualities and work with the ball.

Realmadrid.comElyaz Zidane

Son of French footballing royalty, Zinedine’s son Elyaz certainly has some high standards to live up to, although having progressed through the ranks at Real Madrid, he’s well used to demanding environments.

Eligible for both Algeria and Spain, Zidane jr is turning out for France at the U-17 Euros, and while he’s the youngest of Zidane’s four boys, he may turn out to be the most exciting.

Antoni Milambo

Feyenoord’s youngest ever first team player, Milambo made his debut for the Dutch giants only four months and nine days after his 16th birthday—testament to his maturity and his raw ability.

Eligible for the Democratic Republic of Congo, but featuring for the Netherlands at the U-17 showpiece, Milambo has the quality to hurt teams between the lines, and there won’t be too many players at the tournament who already have experience of playing in senior level continental club competitions.
